WALL FRAMES AND PARTITIONS
Wall frame members
A wall frame is a structural framework of members joined together to form a fabricated unit, which provides strength for a building and fixing for other materials.

The parts of a timber frame perform specific functions such as supporting loads or separating frame members to prevent them from twisting or to simply provide a face or edge to be used for fixing of lining or cladding materials. The frames are constructed of various materials, including mixed hardwood species, Oregon, various commercially available Pines, ‘Zincalume’ and galvanised steel, combinations of timber and steel or from the most commonly used timber species – plantation grown Radiata pine.
Frames may be classified into two basic categories:
Loadbearing:These are structural frames, which support loads from roofing or upper floor frames and transfer these loads through the supporting floor frame members to the footing system. They may be external or internal frames.
Non-loadbearing: These are non-structural or partition frames, which do not support other major loads apart from their own. They are usually internal frames or infill panels and need to be able to withstand common stresses and strains from human contact.
